Star Wars meets Sesame Street, again..
The Young Lords (1978)
Two Colonial warriors vipors are being pursued by Cylon fighters & Starbucks viper is hit. Boomer is forced to leave him crashing more than landing on the cylon occupied planet of Atilla in the Omega Sector. He is captured after failing to escape the relentless metal foe, & he & the Cylons pleasantly exchange pleasant insults. At least we don't rust, LOL! Before he is rescued by the brat cast of Little House On The Prairie in Asterix The Gaul form. An "Angel" on a unicorn comes to his rescue.
How not to describe the planet Atilla under Cylon occupation(?) When first viewing this episode, the contrast of the beautiful, medieval looking castle with the Cylon conquerors marching among those stone forts & yes, polishing their weapons is a sight of fascinating fab! The IL-Series Cylon, Spectre has to run this garrison & the bog/swamp atmosphere & it's impairment to their units. & yes! Love the bond super villain organisation name!
Baltar, meanwhile, wants to know the state of the "unknown" captured colonial warrior from his cosy base star. The first ever Klingon, (yes!) John Colicos plays Baltar with his usual brilliance. Though he must have got lessons from Johnathan Harris (Dr Smith of Lost In Space who voices Lucifer!) in how to be weaselly in future episodes! I love how Lucifer is so jealous of his counterpart on Atilla, though for fraks sake, we can only wonder why(?!) You'd think he'd be glad of such a fellow robotic rival being stuck there amongst all that rust! Baltars delight at such robotic jealousy is shared with this viewer!
Hardly surprising that the eldest daughter Miri has a thing for Starbuck while kyle wants to exchange him for their captured father who has no intention of such a betrayal! After some convincing from Starbuck, we learn that, of course, Spectre has no intention of honoring such an agreement! Phase 2 of kick Cylon butt begins! We are tortured to a Sesame Street lesson on how to defeat the Cylons. After much manipulation to Baltar, Spectre & his garrison are allowed to escape to probably a base star or a less damp planet, they hope!
Okaly, rubbish base star image aside, what an awesome adventure! Yes, the same massacring Cylons that invaded Attila were eventually defeated by a bunch of sesame street brats & sent on a Monty Python-like, rabbit from Hell style retreat, in a 45 minute episode flat! The Atillan brat brigade refer to the Cylons in derogatory terms, like all good enemies of each other, as tin cans, I quite like that!
Battlestar Galactica, like the future Stargate SG-1, takes its Story from Erich Von Daniken's Chariots Of The Gods. I also feel the need to mention Giorgio A.TsouKalos as well. When, as a brat, My parents got this exciting, Star Wars like movie on VHS. (Face it. One of the more superior influences of that franchise from that era!) I had no idea of it's true origins, or perhaps our origins..
This brothers of Man theory, except that some colonials went on an ancient journey to discover a new world. The 13th colony Kobol or Earth as it's legendary name suggests. Though some colonised & settled down on some habital worlds along the way. Once they go beyond the known, that's another story, Eastern Alliance anyone? Of course, I found a ragged, charity shop book called Chariots Of The Gods. An exciting, childhood read!
And, yes, I know Sheba is in the cover image before she joins Battlestar Galatica!
Guilty as charged!
Still, please, stay safe, folks.

Stewart.
